The tangled web…

admin | December 29, 2006

Well, I’m finally able to get a new broadband connection at home.

And you think it’d be just a case of browsing the web, finding the right deal, and signing up, wouldn’t you?

Nope.

All i want is up to 2Mb speeds (until my local exchange finally gets better), unlimited downloads, and no phone deal, modem, or any other tat bundled in.

Can I find a package that fits the bill exactly? Nope. And that’s before the debate between going with a small company (Generally better for customer service according to net wisdom), and a larger firm (Better for not being bought out, or caught out as resellers of other suppliers).

Choosing a phone line is relatively simple, as is switching….buying broadband is like trying to find the pin you dropped in the dark, and hoping when the lights come on, it isn’t stuck anywhere particularly painful. Bearing in mind the whole market is hopefully moving towards free net access anyway, it’s a right pain.

I’m back…

admin | December 27, 2006

Well, the good news is that it doesn’t seem to have been an RSI injury which has kept me offline and at home for the past two weeks.
The bad news is that haven’t been near the internet, and feel so out of touch it’s ridiculous. I actually only found out James Brown had sadly died the day after it had happened, and on the evening news. And even then, a lot of the details were only available the next day in the paper.
that’s probably the first event for the last couple of years which I haven’t found out straight away via an RSS feed, via email, or via my most-viewed sites… And it was rather frustrating.

Sony’s viral disaster

admin | December 13, 2006

(Excuse the lack of caps but due to my wrist injury, I’m trying not to strain my remaining good hand)

Sony has really scored an own goal with their new attempt at promoting the psp. Creating a fake blog was bad enough, but they’ve even accelerated into the car crash by doing it badly, and moderating comments in such an obvious way.

It’s all round the web.e.g.

And in an era when bloggers will openly admit to receiving free gadgets for reviews, it’s just so stupid.
