I spotted on DownLoadSquad today that Adobe is planning to release a free, entry-level, web-based version of Photoshop in the next six months.
And I can’t wait.
I’m a huge Photoshop junkie, despite not being the most artistic geek around. I use the basic tools for work (crop, sharpen, save for web, move onto the next one), occasionally getting to play around with cloning and other more advanced tools. And I really enjoy having the time to experiment.
But with software licences, it’s meant trying to find alternatives for home use, or for works machines without licences. Including on trips away from the office with laptops. And I’ve yet to find anything else which has a crop tool which works as well, particularly when I’ve got 200 photos to get on a website in a matter of minutes.
So if the web-based Photoshop can crop, sharpen, and batch process files, I’ll be a very happy man. It won’t stop me licencing the full-blown version for office and home use, but it will mean i won’t be tempted to try the range of alternatives when I can’t use those specific PCs, which can only be a good move for Adobe in the long run…
