Google buys Feedburner

Google has shown good taste in buying up Feedburner for $100 million. I’ve used the service for my RSS feeds and found ti to be reliable, and offer decent tracking etc.

And as of May 23, 2007, Feedburner is responsible for 721,074 feeds from over 422,717 publishers.

More on Download Squad.

Personally I don’t see much affect for small publishers. What I do see is the trial of Adsense for RSS becoming commonplace, which is a good thing for bloggers etc. It finally resolves the problem of readers not visiting sites due to RSS feeds, and therefore not being exposed to ads, and the eternal dilemma of truncated or full RSS feeds

Will Sony stop making PR disasters

Having been uncovered using Microsoft’s XBox 360 exclusive PGR3 in promotions for he Sony PS3 and Gran Tourismo, you’d think Sony would be taking more care?

Apparently not:

Top tip: Check the numberplate

Mind you, they’re getting plenty of coverage. Mainly because it’s like watching a slow motion car crash, being ploughed into by a runaway train full of orphans, and then being swallowed by an earthquake of embarrassment.

More details, here.

Moving house tomorrow…

So updates may be delayed until I’ve got home broadband reconnected and found which box the router is in.

And which box the laptop is in.

And where the phone socket is.

Ont he bright side, I’m 300 metres from the local telephone exchange, as opposed to 3.34km away at the moment. So my connection should be a lot quicker! Plus, following on from the Panorama investigation into WiFi radiation, I now have an excuse to network the house, even if in reality, it’s probably no worse for me than anything else I encounter on a daily basis!

Mini ‘Second Life’ on your desktop

If you’ve a hankering for an online avatar, but don’t have a PC at home, or the time to invest in Second Life, then a new site could offer a solution.

MyMiniLife.com offers the chance to create a basic avatar, and then buy and furnish a home to show to other users, and to get social in.

It’s a really new launch, and I registered yesterday to have a look around. At the moment there’s not a huge amount of people, as evident in the 3D lobby, but there’s a fair number of other people’s houses to browse.

The avatar and house design are all Flash-powered, and aren’t too difficult to use, although some of the house design tools need a little work, and also seemed to have a problem loading after a while. But it all worked enough to give an insight into the system, which is still subject to change in Web 2.0 stylie, but offers a fair bit of promise as a timewaster. One nice touch is that TV’s etc can be embedded with video clips etc, so you’re TV can play a clip of you on Youtube for example.

Definitely worth experimenting with before the crowds turn up
